Ride the Rockies

Take the ride of a lifetime across the Colorado Rockies as you hop between rustic mountain towns and rugged wilderness.

About Your Trip

Ride down the road on an adults-only DreamTrip* like no other with Josh Paine, CEO of WorldVentures™. You’ll experience the Colorado Rocky Mountains from every angle as you hop between rustic mountain towns and rugged wilderness on a Harley Davidson® Motorcycle or in the cab of a Dodge Charger® (or similar premium rental vehicle). Starting in Denver, you’ll ride up into the mountains, looking back towards the state’s capital and the last major city you’ll see for the next five days.

Take a moment to gaze at Colorado’s famous “fourteeners” as you cross back and forth across the continental divide, passing through the Collegiate Peaks, San Juan Mountains, Weminuche Wilderness and Sangre de Cristo Mountains — some of the most visually striking ranges in the Colorado Rockies.

Each night, you’ll experience a new town along the route. From Denver, you’re off to Salida, a town established in 1880 as a trading stop along the Arkansas River, and now a popular stopover for white water rafting, hiking and 4-wheeling. In Silverton, an old mining town, you’ll get a glimpse into the past at your hotel, a historic building from Silverton’s early mining days. On your final night, you’ll stop in South Fork where the South Fork River meets the Rio Grande River, and site of a major connection point of the Rio Grande Western Railroad.

*Please note: This ride is designed for experienced riders only. These roads are narrow, steep, winding and can have extreme conditions. We will be covering over 150 miles (241 kilometers) per day. If you do not feel comfortable riding a motorcycle in all conditions and over all terrains, we recommend that you book the car option or bring your own vehicle. Please see Additional Information for further details.

What we love:
•  Ride through Colorado’s spectacular Rocky Mountains including one of the most scenic roads in the United States, the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway, also known as the Million Dollar Highway.
•  Stay in classic mountain towns, surrounded by Colorado’s legendary “fourteeners,” defined as any mountain with a summit over 14,000 feet (4,267 meters) above sea level.
•  Stop in several iconic locations along your route such as Breckenridge, Ouray, and Durango with an optional scenic drive to Anamas Forks ghost town in the San Juan Mountains along the Alpine Loop 4-wheel-drive trail.

Destination

From the Colorado Plateau to the west, the Rocky Mountains stretching from north to south and the great plains disappearing into the east, Colorado is a place of beauty and wonder. Colorado’s Mount Elbert, at a staggering 14,400 feet (4,389 meters) , is the highest point in Colorado and the Rocky Mountains of North America. Known as the “Front Range”, the eastern slope of Rocky Mountains is home to over 70% of Colorado’s population and boasts the metropolises of Denver, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins.

Colorado holds a proud history living off the land, innovation in extreme conditions and rugged pioneering. Interstate 70 is a marvel of modern engineering crossing the continental divide, making its way over Vail Pass at 10,666 feet (3,251 meters), winding through Glenwood Canyon where most of the roadway is elevated and through Eisenhower Tunnel with a maximum elevation of 11,158 feet (3,401 meters).

Animas Forks Ghost Town
Animas Forks is up a 12-mile (19-kilometer) stretch of the Alpine Loop, a major off-road destination. While the section of road necessary to reach Animas Forks is not a 4-wheel-drive road, it can be very bumpy and be covered in large gravel. We recommend this excursion only for those who have driven extensively on dirt roads and are comfortable with extreme conditions. Animas Forks lies at an altitude of 11,200 feet (3,414 meters). Please be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions and be prepared to turn back if you feel any of the effects of altitude sickness.

Please note: WorldVentures and Rovia are not responsible for damage done to vehicles during this excursion. Please proceed with caution.

Extreme Weather
Colorado weather, especially in the Rocky Mountains, is highly unpredictable and changes rapidly. Please be prepared to ride in any weather, including snow. Temperatures can vary between 30 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit (between -1 and 27 Celsius) during the day and between 0 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit (between -18 and 10 Celsius) at night. It is not uncommon to get snowstorms in the mountains in June. We recommend several layers of clothing that can be put on over one another to add or remove warmth.

Altitude
Our route will take us to over 11,000 feet (3,353 meters). Altitude sickness can effect anyone and, despite being very common, can be a serious concern. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea and muscle aches. If you notice any of these symptoms, please inform your host. Be sure to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen, especially at high altitudes, to help prevent the effects altitude sickness. Alcohol can worsen these effects. Please drink responsibly.
